Oscar Hedman

Prospect Grade: 5.5 B  (About Prospect Grades)

Profile Contributed By: Johan Nilsson

History

Hedman had a sensational start in the junior league with MODO this season averaging a point per game. His play was good enough for MoDo to let him play in the SEL around Christmas time and Hedman immediately had an impact. Not only did he look like a full blooded SEL defenseman, he was also the youngest goal scorer in SEL this season. In the junior league playoffs he was the highest scoring defenseman with 6 points in 8 games – and led MODO’s U20 team to the gold medal. Hedman was also Sweden’s best player in the U18 World Junior Championships.

Talent Analysis

A very strong defenseman with an impressive overall game. Hedman is very responsible at both ends of the ice and has no glaring weakness. He is not very tall at 6’0” but he is build like a tank and as strong as they come. Hedman is also very mobile and has good offensive instincts and joins the rush whenever there is a good reason to do so. His main strength is his fine passing game. He is a very good player to have on the powerplay with his playmaking ability and if he improves his shot even more he’ll be even more dangerous.

Future

He did not get too many opportunities to shine offensively this season in the SEL but with gained experience we can be sure of seeing Hedman more active in the offensive zone.
