History

Marko Anttila was a pick that was really off the board. Chances are that no one present at the draft except those affiliated with the Hawks' Finnish scout Sakari Pietila had ever heard of Anttila. Players are not drafted into the NHL from the third tier Finnish league, but now the fourth tier has their man.

38 points in 22 games with Lempaala. The 6'7 giant tore up the fourth tier Finnish league in 2003-04 and his talent has been nearly impossible to gauge accurately due to the level of competition.

2007-08: In his fourth year with Ilves of the SM-Liiga, Finland’s top professional hockey league, Anttila put up career highs in goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. He tied for first on the team with 14 goals, while his 23 points were eighth best. Anttila also racked up 90 penalty minutes, which ranked second on the team, as he utilized his colossal frame to intimidate opponents on a regular basis. Anttila’s physical play and offensive capabilities were two parts of his game that saw vast improvement during the season.
