History

2005-06: Joined AHL Stars when college season was complete.

Conner spent four years at Michigan Tech, graduating in 2006. Never drafted, he began his pro career on an amateur try-out basis with Iowa in the AHL. After a strong showing which included a two-point effort in seven playoff games, he earned a two-year contract with Dallas.

2006-07: He further proved that he could compete despite his diminutive size. In 48 games, Conner tallied 19 goals and 37 points, ranking him first among rookies on the team and earning Iowa's Rookie of the Year award. During the season, Conner was recalled to Dallas on three occasions. He played a total of 11 games, picking up his first goal as well as a pair of helpers. Conner finished the season with Iowa and in the playoffs where he notched 7 points in 12 games.

2007-08: Conner split the year between the AHL and NHL once again.  He appeared in 22 games for Dallas, where he registered five points and even saw some limited power play time in addition to his fourth line role.  He also appeared in one playoff game for the Stars as well against Detroit.  Conner also found his way into 55 games for Iowa (AHL) where he grabbed a career-high 39 points, good for fifth on the squad.

Talent Analysis

Conner is a high energy, up-tempo player that cannot afford to take shifts off.  He’s very undersized and can be easily out-muscled if he does not display tenacity and drive at every pass.  He has elusive speed and quickness and can jump on loose pucks in a hurry.  Has a good, quick shot that he can use from anywhere.  Despite his diminutive stature, still finds his way to the front of the net for scoring chances, especially second chance opportunities.  Probably not big enough or skilled enough to ever see regular top-six minutes.  Needs to find himself an NHL niche to give himself the best chance to stick around.  Time is a factor, Conner turns 25 early in the 08-09 season.

Future

Conner will continue to fight for time in the Dallas Stars lineup, but he won’t have anything handed to him at any point, he’ll have to try hard to earn everything he gets.

Potential: Bottom-six energy winger with some offensive upside, like Tyler Kennedy.
