Talent Analysis

O’Neill is an intelligent centerman with great hands and a very good shot. At 156 lbs. he’ll need to add some size and strength to his 5’11 frame to be successful at the next levels. O’Neill could potentially blossom into a very solid two-way forward because of his good passing and playmaking skills coupled with his simple yet smart defensive side. Despite being thin, O’Neill doesn’t shy away from playing the body and can be quite aggressive on the forecheck. He possesses some good foot speed but he’ll need some work on his pivots and his transitioning.

One of O’Neill’s best attributes is his shot. He has a powerful shot with a very good release. He can often be found playing one of the points on the power play. He can get pucks to the net and will shoot as often as the opportunities present themselves. O’Neill possesses good poise and patience with the puck. He sees the ice really well has the ability to create time and space for his teammates. He is excellent on draws and is equally at home finishing the play as he is creating it.

Future

O’Neill has committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for 2009.
