Matt Hoyle

History

2006-07: Hoyle played last season in the OPJHL with the Oakville Blades, where he posted a record of 27-7-1-1, a 2.59 goals against average and a.906 save percentage. He recorded four shutouts, was voted the West Division Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Star team as an underage rookie. Selected by the Indiana Ice in the 16th round of the 2007 USHL Entry Draft with the 148th overall pick.

2007-08: Was a late addition for the Indiana Ice after the team lost goaltender John Muse to Boston College. He saw time a good amount of time in net, although fellow teammate Scott Darling got the early jump and got the majority of the minutes.

Talent Analysis

Hoyle is a very strong, focused, goaltender with a lot of potential and all the tools to be successful. Easily would have been a starter for any other team in the league. He reads the game really, picks up the well and his anticipation is just as good. Might play too deep in the crease and drop to quick, which leaves him exposed up top. With the exception of playing deep, his positioning and angles are okay. Otherwise very good with his footwork and moves post to post very well. Does a good job of kicking out his rebounds. Very good in close and covers a lot of ground. Has been suggested that he could come out and challenge shooters more. Very dedicated and noted for working just as hard off ice with conditioning as he does on the ice.

Future

Hoyle will attend Harvard and play for the Crimson next fall.
